May is Armed Forces Month across the United States, a time dedicated to recognizing the men and women who serve in every branch of our military. Here in Bay County, that appreciation runs deep. With Tyndall Air Force Base at the heart of our community and generations of military families calling this area home, May becomes more than a national observance. It becomes a hometown tradition.
For 2026, the first major events on the calendar are already confirmed, and they are ones that families look forward to every year.
Armed Forces Week at WonderWorks

WonderWorks, the iconic upside-down attraction, is once again opening its doors to honor those who serve. During Armed Forces Week, all active-duty and retired military receive FREE admission with valid military ID. Family and friends joining them receive $3 off their tickets.
Inside, guests can explore more than 100 hands-on exhibits, from the hurricane simulator to the bubble lab, plus laser tag, the ropes course, and all the quirky, brain-bending fun WonderWorks is known for. It is a simple gesture, but one that brings joy to thousands of military families each year.
This week-long celebration also aligns with Armed Forces Day, which falls on Saturday, May 16, 2026, making WonderWorks one of the first local attractions to officially announce its appreciation plans for the year.

Starting on Monday, May 11, 2026, all active duty service members and veterans can enjoy a Free Sandwich on their designated day. These brave men and women have fought for our freedom, and we are proud to honor them. Please join us in this week long celebration.
Schedule: Mon 5/11 - ARMY Tue 5/12 - MARINE CORPS Wed 5/13 - NAVY Thur 5/14 - AIR FORCE Fri 5/15 - COAST GUARD Sat 5/16 - 11am-2pm Lunch with the Heroes All Active Military and Veterans.

While WonderWorks and MISSION BBQ are first to publish their 2026 schedules, May traditionally brings a wave of military-focused events across Panama City and Panama City Beach.
