A.D. Harris Learning Village Offers Refuge Through Friday |
As freezing temperatures grip Panama City, the Rebuild Bay County and Bay County Emergency Services have extended the operation of the warming shelter at A.D. Harris Learning Village, located at 819 E. 11th Street.
The shelter will remain open nightly through Friday, January 30, from 6 p.m. to noon the following day, providing a safe haven for those in need.
Should the cold persist beyond this period, organizers are prepared to make further accommodations.
Transportation to the shelter is available via BayWay Transit Route 4 until 8 p.m., offered at no cost to those seeking refuge.
For more information on transportation, call 850-215-7226 or 850-215-0607.
Individuals seeking shelter can arrive after 6 p.m. each evening and must register upon arrival.
The facility is intended for those who are homeless or unable to maintain heat in their homes, who can care for themselves, and who are not at risk to themselves or others.
It's important to note that individuals under the influence of drugs or alcohol will not be admitted.
Additionally, alcohol, drugs, drug paraphernalia, guns, or weapons are strictly prohibited.
While the shelter cannot accommodate animals, arrangements can be made with Bay County Animal Control for those arriving with pets.
Community support has been instrumental in the shelter's operations.
Local organizations and volunteers have provided meals and essential supplies, ensuring guests have access to dinner and breakfast during their stay.
For those interested in volunteering or contributing, opportunities are available to support this vital community service.
With temperatures expected to remain low, the shelter serves as a critical resource for the community.
Residents are encouraged to spread the word to those who may benefit from this service.
