Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport Embarks on Major Terminal Expansion

Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport (ECP) has commenced construction on a significant 80,000-square-foot expansion of its North Terminal, marking a pivotal step in accommodating the airport's substantial growth and enhancing the passenger experience.

The expansion will introduce three additional gates, six airline baggage offices, and four new baggage claim carousels. Passengers can look forward to enhanced amenities, including new concessions, restrooms, and expanded seating areas. The project also plans to relocate and enlarge the  TSA checkpoint to streamline security procedures.

Mark Sheldon, Chair of the Airport Board of Directors, emphasized the project's importance: "This expansion is essential to maintaining our commitment to providing an exceptional travel experience as we continue to grow. It will provide the capacity and amenities our passengers deserve while positioning us to welcome new airlines and destinations."

Since its opening in 2010,  ECP has experienced remarkable growth, with passenger traffic increasing from over 300,000 annually to nearly 2 million in recent years—a 501% surge. This expansion is a strategic response to the escalating demand and is designed to sustain operational efficiency and support continued growth.

The three-phase project begins with establishing the building's infrastructure and footprint. Subsequent phases will focus on interior development and the activation of passenger services. Funding is sourced from a collaborative partnership involving state and federal agencies, regional partners, airline partners, and the airport itself.

Beyond enhancing the travel experience, the expansion underscores ECP's significant economic impact on the region. The airport's growth has been a catalyst for local economic development, creating job opportunities for new business partnerships, increased tourism, and sustained regional growth.

As ECP continues to evolve, this expansion positions the airport to efficiently serve passengers well into the future while maintaining the streamlined, passenger-focused experience for which it is known.
