Quote Of The Day

Sure! Here is the Panama City, Florida quote of the day: "Life is a journey that must be traveled no matter how bad the roads and accommodations." - Oliver Goldsmith

The 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan–Cortina brought one of Team USA’s most historic performances, with local pride shining bright for the Florida Panhandle.

Crestview’s Mia Manganello Kilburg made history by earning a bronze in speed skating’s mass start—her first individual Olympic medal and the first ever for the U.S. in the event.

Figure skating fueled American triumphs as Alysa Liu captured gold in both the women’s event and the team competition, while Ilia Malinin anchored the team victory despite heartbreak in his solo free skate.

Team USA dominated on the ice, sweeping both men’s and women’s hockey gold for the first time, and excelling in freestyle skiing, speed skating, and snowboarding.

In total, the U.S. took home 33 medals, including a record-setting 12 golds, capping an unforgettable Games that brought Olympic glory to Northwest Florida.

Team USA captured Olympic gold in men’s hockey for the first time since the iconic 1980 “Miracle on Ice,” thrilling fans with a dramatic 2–1 overtime win over rival Canada in Milan–Cortina on February 22, 2026.

Jack Hughes sealed victory just 1:41 into sudden-death, firing a wrister past Canadian goalie Jordan Binnington after a sharp setup from Zach Werenski.

Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck’s heroics, stopping 41 of 42 shots, anchored the Americans throughout a tense, physical contest.

Matt Boldy opened the scoring early, while Canada’s Cale Makar tied it late in the second, setting up a scoreless third and electrifying overtime.

This gold came 46 years to the day after the original “Miracle,” echoing a proud U.S. hockey tradition.

With NHL stars like Hughes and Auston Matthews leading the way, a new generation has climbed to Olympic glory—and looks poised for more in the years ahead.

It capped a dominant run, as Team USA overwhelmed the competition with a dazzling 6–1–0–0 record and a jaw-dropping 33–2 goal differential, marking one of the sport’s most commanding tournament performances.

Aerin Frankel’s sensational goaltending, with a .979 save percentage and record-setting string of shutouts, anchored a defense that refused to yield.

Captain Hilary Knight tied the final late, further cementing her legendary status as the U.S. Olympic leader in goals and points.

The Panama City Farmers Market could soon begin rotating its downtown location every three months, starting in 2026, as part of a new effort to boost downtown vitality.

The Downtown Improvement Board (DIB), led by Jason Kretzer, hopes this plan will balance foot traffic, support a range of local businesses, and gather data on the most successful sites.

The market, normally at McKenzie Park, temporarily moved to Harrison Avenue last year during construction but could soon rotate between these and other downtown spots.

Business owners are split: some, like Pam Armstrong of Tom’s Hot Dogs, see opportunity, while others, such as Ted Holland of Somethin’s Cookin’ Downtown, express concerns about unpredictable crowds.

Managed by Anchored Market Ventures, the Saturday market draws over 100 local vendors and remains a cherished community gathering place.
