The Martin Theatre, a landmark in downtown Panama City, is in the midst of an exciting restoration that aims to revive its storied legacy and boost its role as a cultural gathering place.
First opened as The Ritz Theatre in 1936, this beloved venue suffered extensive damage during Hurricane Michael in 2018, forcing it to close and leaving a noticeable gap in the city’s arts scene.
Determined to restore the theatre, the city launched a major renovation in January 2025, focusing on three interconnected buildings: the Martin Theatre, the Ritz, and the new Tennessee House.
About 40% of the steel work has already been completed. Jared Jones, Assistant City Manager, expressed confidence in the project’s progress, envisioning a vibrant hub for live events and performances.
Preserving the Art Deco charm while adding modern amenities, the new complex will reinforce community spirit and serve as a symbol of Panama City’s resilience and commitment to its cultural roots. Read More... |
