Downtown parking options in Panama City, Florida

Find out about public parking and parking lot renovations in the area

Downtown Panama City is enhancing its public parking facilities through a collaborative effort with First Baptist Church. This partnership aims to refurbish and expand parking options, providing residents and visitors with improved access to the downtown area.

The initiative focuses on four key lots near 6th Street and Harrison Avenue. These lots are undergoing resurfacing, restriping, and layout improvements to maximize efficiency. Once completed, they will offer 24/7 public access, significantly increasing available parking spaces. The project, awarded to Chapel Branch & Lagniappe for $435,340.88, is primarily funded by the Hometown Revitalization Grant, with the remaining costs shared equally between the City of Panama City and First Baptist Church.

City Manager Jonathan Hayes emphasized the importance of these upgrades, noting that transforming gravel or grass lots into well-marked, paved spaces not only enhances aesthetics but also increases capacity by clearly delineating parking spots.

In addition to expanding parking availability, Panama City has implemented new regulations to improve safety and traffic flow. As of October 1, 2025, Ordinance No. 3271 introduced 27 new parking violations, with fines ranging from $20 to $250. These measures address issues such as parking too close to intersections, blocking driveways, and occupying handicap spaces without proper credentials.

To further assist drivers, large metal signs have been installed throughout downtown, providing clear information on parking limits and restrictions. This initiative aims to prevent common violations and ensure streets remain safe and accessible for everyone.

These combined efforts reflect Panama City's commitment to supporting a thriving downtown by enhancing parking infrastructure and promoting responsible parking practices.

Additional parking is becoming available in Downtown Panama City through the City’s partnership with First Baptist Church.
