Trivia Question❓

Panama City, Florida has a unique claim to fame as being the location of the largest artificial reef system in North America. What was the name of the ship purposely sunk to create this reef in 2012?

Answer at the bottom of the newsletter

Carpet One Floor & Home in Panama City, FL, shines as the heart of the local Toys for Tots drive.

Under the leadership of owner John Shepard since 2004, the store transforms into a vital collection center, ensuring holiday gifts reach underprivileged children throughout Bay County.

The bustling showroom at 2804 W 23rd St welcomes both donations and volunteers, who work together to sort and distribute thousands of new toys.

Recently, families and volunteers gathered for a spirited night at the Green Hills Community Center in Fountain, enjoying festive decorations, costume fun, and sweet treats—all supporting the cause.

Locals can get involved by dropping off toys or lending a hand at sorting events, helping spread holiday joy and unity across the community.

Every donation counts, making a lasting difference for Bay County’s kids.

"Project Feeding Our Homeless and Hungry: Providing Warm Christmas Meals for Those in Need in Panama City"

On Sunday Dec 14th in Panama City, compassion was served alongside a hot meal. Project Feeding Our Homeless and Hungry, led by longtime community advocate Machell Akins and her dedicated team, brought warmth and hope to residents at the Marie Motel by providing freshly prepared Christmas meals to those experiencing homelessness and hunger.

More than just a meal, the gathering was a reminder that no one in the community is forgotten, especially during the holidays. Akins and her volunteers worked with care and purpose, creating a moment of comfort, dignity, and holiday cheer for neighbors who needed it most.

For many, the kindness shown that day meant more than words could express. Smiles, gratitude, and heartfelt thanks filled the space as meals were shared and connections were made.

In recent years, Akins has expanded her mission beyond food, recognizing that the holidays can be especially difficult for children in struggling households. Through toy drives held each Christmas season, she collects gifts for underprivileged children to ensure they, too, can experience the joy of the holiday.

On Christmas Day, Akins and her team plan to deliver these gifts directly to families in need, offering not just presents, but hope, encouragement, and the powerful reminder that the community stands with them during times of hardship.

The City of Panama City hired CCR Architecture & Interiors to renovate the MLK Jr. Recreation Center.

The Soft Opening is scheduled for Monday, December 15th, 2025 from 2-5 PM at 705 E. 14TH CT Panama City, FL 32401.

The Grand Opening and full hours of operation will begin in January 2026.
