Bay County Residents Voice Concerns Over Rezoning of 9104 Laird Street |
Community members express apprehension about potential neighborhood changes |
Bay County's ongoing development has sparked discussions about rezoning, particularly concerning the property at 9104 Laird Street.
During the Bay County Commission meeting on Tuesday, December 16, officials addressed the proposed zoning change from residential to neighborhood commercial for this location.
Commissioner Robert Carroll acknowledged the community's concerns, stating, "We have approved zoning changes in the past, and they have not become what they said they were going to do. I'm not saying this applicant would do that, I'm just saying that that is a possibility, once it's changed, it's changed."
The developer plans to construct ten townhomes on the site.
To address residents' apprehensions, the commission imposed a condition that, despite the commercial zoning designation, the property could only be used for residential purposes.
Commissioner Carroll noted, "And what we did was we put a condition that the property, even though it has a commercial zoning designation, could only be used for residential purposes, and I think everyone was satisfied with that."
Ultimately, the commissioners voted to allow the development of 9104 Laird Street exclusively as a residential neighborhood.
As Bay County continues to grow, balancing development with community interests remains a priority for local officials. |
