Dan Rowe Resigns as President of Panama City Beach CVB Amid Financial Turmoil |
Leadership Shake-Up Follows Arrest of Key Executive |
Dan Rowe, the longstanding President and CEO of the Panama City Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) and Executive Director of the Bay County Tourist Development Council (TDC), has officially resigned from his position.
In an email addressed to TDC/CVB Board Chair Clair Pease, Rowe submitted his resignation, expressing that it has been an honor and a privilege to serve the CVB for the past 18 years.
Pease acknowledged receipt of the resignation and authorized Rowe to work remotely during the transition period, as outlined in his contract.
Rowe's departure comes in the wake of significant financial misconduct within the organization.
Earlier this month, Aaron Lee, the Vice President of Administration at the CVB, was arrested on charges of grand theft and fraudulent use of a credit card, allegedly making nearly $1 million in unauthorized purchases.
In response to these developments, Rowe had previously announced a paid leave of absence, stating, "I believe that it is in the best interest of the organization that I take a leave to allow the dust to settle."
During his tenure since 2007, Rowe guided the county through numerous tourism challenges, including the pandemic, significant changes to spring break policies, and the BP oil spill.
His leadership has been instrumental in shaping Panama City Beach as a premier tourist destination.
According to his contract, Rowe's voluntary resignation requires a three-month written notice.
During this period, the CVB may elect to terminate the contract by providing a lump sum payment equal to his current annual base salary and automobile allowance for the remainder of the notice period.
With an annual salary of approximately $340,000, this equates to about $85,000, plus $1,500 for three months of his automobile allowance ($500 per month), and any accrued vacation days.
The CVB has not yet disclosed the number of vacation days Rowe has accrued.
In addition to Rowe's resignation, board member Yonnie Patronis has decided not to seek reappointment after two decades of service.
These leadership changes mark a significant shift for the CVB and TDC as they work to restore public trust and strengthen financial oversight.
A special meeting of the CVB/TDC Board of Directors is scheduled for Monday, February 2, to discuss Rowe's resignation and address the ongoing financial concerns within the organization.
As the community awaits further developments, the focus remains on ensuring transparency and accountability in the management of Panama City Beach's tourism industry. |
